Think that’s good? Take a look at what he did with one block of wood!

Go on then, ill nibble – how do the two sides of the pliers stay together?

One bit is through a hole in the other bit, but both sides of that bit are wider than the hole, so it can’t come out.

“Don’t try this at home” comes to mind.

It’s a box-joint rather than a slip-joint, which requires a pivot to hold the two halves together.

That’s on the This Is Colossal website.
If you fancy something else a bit special then have a look on that website at the old Japanese guy making one of the wooden dolls on a lathe.
    I was transfixed by it.

One of those other videos has answered a question that’s bugged me for years. Can you carve a wooden chain? Yes you can.

My dad once showed me how to whittle a whistle.

Like the gentleman above he has a calm and confident manner that you get with a lifetime’s experience, and makes you think “I could give that a go”
I’m in the process of building his workbench now and I’m totally addicted to his videos and blog.

I cringed every time he made a cut, fingers and thumbs in front of the blade, which is why I’ll never be able to carve wood
If I did I wouldn’t have fingers and thumbs, same result really 🙂
    Some skillz there

He won’t cut his fingers even when working towrds them because he’s applying the forces in a very controlled way using limited movements.
