What is the best currently available set-up for mudguards?

    I am aware of:

-Classic downtube mount crud-catcher style devices
-Neoguard fork arch-to-crown neoprene panel type thing
-Mini-fork fenders that attach to the fork-arch
-Big fork fenders that do the same thing
-Those huge rear mud-guards that can make the sexiest bike look like a Tesco special

For anyone with experience, what’s the best combo?

I was going to try a Neoguard type thing, possibly in conjunction with a downtube crud catcher. I really hate the look of rear mudguards. I might get one but only put it on when it’s really wet. Fashion victim, I know 😳

Are there any non fugly rear mudguards out there?

original crud race is still the best rear guard.

I find this to be a decent combo, though neither is particularly good on it’s own IME. I run a SKS shockboard otherwise on my other bike, that combo is just as good.

If you have canti mount on the rear this is really good:

Otherwise yep I reckon a Crudguard rear.

Try searching for wooden fenders, they are nice @a nice price.

Do you have to have the canti posts to mount that decathlon thing or just the holes for bosses?

As an old f**t I like to keep dry, particularly in the winter, so have decent guards (Shockboard front and something else German on the back). I may have an advantage in that preferring to look at the trail and not having eyes in my backside I can’t actually see what they look like so don’t really care as long as they are doing the job.

I bought one of those decathlon thingys at lunchtime, two coach bolts later and it fits perfectly and seems rock solid. The joy of having v brake mounts on my old full susser.

Crud Race pack is the way forward if you’re that way inclined.

I generally run a front one on my bikes as they have bosses for it, but no rear one.

If it’s wet on go the waterproof shorts, otherwise mud ain’t a bad thing
