will a 10sp rear mech work with an 11 sp shifter as the measurement from one side to the other (i.e. largest sprocket to smallest) is the same for a 10 or 11 cassette?

It isn’t the same. The largest (innermost) sprocket is inset over the hub.

    ah!

as long as the stops allow full extremity movement the pull ratio of a mrch doesn’t matter as the 11 sp shifter does that and matches the cassette spacing surely?

    Only with 11s mech.
