The last bike race I went to that had a Dj playing, had some bloke called Zak tempest? Anyone heard what happend to him. Or vaguely remember a Jesus jones dj set at malverns one year. That was a good night!

I don’t think I’ve imagined Boy George DJing at the 2nd Red Bull Mountain Mayhem in Sandwell Park? It was a little surreal to burst out of the darkness to find a full on gig taking place with 1000s of locals and seemingly no MTBers..

If an iPod playlist through the PA isn’t adequate (you did say it’s a race, not a rave) why not get a local band that does decent covers? That way you get people who actually play instruments instead of a bloke with a big ego swapping CDs.

    Mr Scruff?

Can you rig speakers around the course so that riders can hear the tunes most of the circuit, then the DJ can wind it up over the 2 hours so that by the end of the race everyone’s setting PBs/having heart attacks?

I can’t think of anything worse than listening to somebody elses crap music for a whole race…

    Ah well.

At least you’ll only need one bag of chalk for the start/finish line.

why do you need a well known dj?

they will charge for their services, you aren’t a charity.

Do you have permission from the council to play amplified music in the park? have you looked into what licences are required (prs etc)? have you arranged a PA and a generator? is the dj expected to bring their own equipment?

Not trying to be down on your plans but if you though a well known celebrity dj was going to play records for free at your bike race you may not have thought it through very well.

You could always turn up and offer to be a marshall.

You’d get to see exactly how ‘disorganised’ it actually is.

ha! might do that if I’ve got nothing else on.

wasn’t having a dig at your organisation skills in general, you’ve obviously been doing this for a few years.

do you usually put on a dj then?

Nowt to do with me, I just turn up and ride round slowly at the back 🙂

all profits go to charity so it is not a business either.
I doubt they would put in all that effort for the returns they make

Great event looking fwd to it

Thanks for all you do HtS

Would just playing a playlist but still having a stage with an effigy if Sir Saville (in a gold cofin propped up at 45 degree naturally) behind the decks be considered in poor taste or has a enough time past?

I know this question marks me down as Very Elderly, but what distinguishes one person who plays records from another?

Not when you have your eyes closed. I mean – really – educate me. Apart from wearing funny glasses and waving his arms, what is he doing?

Mark does fail sometimes…..especially when he’s in this state, my bro offering him moral support and a pint of Hoegarden………”Go-on…..get it down, ya soft southern poof!”, the poor boy was broken.
