Pulling up to a set of lights, 2 lanes with the left lane standing still and me moving on their right and bosh, he walks out of the stationary traffic straight into my car. I saw him coming but he was staring at his phone. Straight into the car and onto the floor – thankfully I was only doing 15ish. He gets up, picks his phone up and walks off over the road! Christ if I were a second slower I’d have hit him full bore not a glancing blow.

Darwinism at its finest. next set of lights, he might not be so lucky. some people shouldn’t be allowed distractions while out in potentially dangerous situations.

I dunno how to feel tbh. A bit wobbly. I was fine til I started thinking about it.

shock. it’ll probably replay itself a few times before you start to feel better.

speaking of Darwinism, I was tootling down the hill (in the car) the other evening, doing the same speed as the rest of the traffic. dark shape scoots down the inside, then there’s a flash of red as he squeezed his brake lever, before proceeding to do the same again and again.
Daft sod on a smallish motorbike, no lights, cutting down the inside of a lane of traffic moving at 33. Bottom of the hill is a traffic light controlled junction – and he sailed straight through that too, despite it being on red, and still no lights. He got lucky, there was nothing coming through the junction, but I do wonder how long he’ll last riding like that

I wouldn’t think about it any more than you already have. You were clearly not at fault, and if he was injured you would have known about it. Clearly he was off his face or something? As long as you weren’t drink driving which I’m sure you weren’t then you did everything right? You reacted quickly and he walked away… It happens. Don’t stress 🙂

I’d consider reporting it, even if only to get your “version” of events formally noted soon after it happened.

i had a guy step out on me one sunday morning

he was reading the paper as he stepped into the road- (was a broadsheet too?!) about 10 metres in front of me, luckily i was only doing 20

somehow i managed an emergency stop ending up a few cm from him

he casually apologised and walked off, i couldnt say anything but was pumped for about an hour

Yep. Get it logged (perhaps best if you don’t have a stiff drink just yet too)

i saw some girl almost walk off the platform the other morning whilst looking at her phone. she caught her heel on the edge and managed to save herself from falling. lots of gasping and a few hands trying to grab/steady her. quite entertaining from a distance.

Watched someone last year tanked up after a night out get completely run over by a taxi (I was in a taxi going the other way). I reckon he went under both front and rear wheels. Got up and staggered away. Taxi driver just stood there after in complete bewilderment.

But yes, worth just checking with the police what to do.

That. I saw a girl hanging by her fingers from a bridge over a main road once with someone trying and not managing to pull her back up. I jumped off the bike, jumped over the railings and holding the railing with one hand managed to grab her with the other hand and the two of us managed to pull her up. The two of them just then walked away from the crowd that had then gathered 😯

the number of people who step out in front of me when I’m on my bike is ridiculous. Normally they are on their phone and I guess because they can’t hear a car they assume it is safe. As has been said, Darwinism at work. just put your phone down for 5s FFS

I once rand down a bloke when riding to work. He just stepped straight into my path, giving me no chance to brake.

Trashed my front wheel and broke my nse. Knocked him out.

Turns out he was blind (oops).
On his way to theological college (double oops).

Once hit a bloke while driving (at about 15-20mph) through Bayeaux in France because he just stepped out. So I stopped gave him a ‘firm telling off’ and then drove off.

Decades before mobile phones were invented I jaywalked off a pavement in the middle of Newcastle. Heard a kind of “zzzzzzz” sound and looked around to see a white MK1 Escort van, wheels locked on the wet road, slide to a halt with the bonnet against my knees. The two occupants, who looked like builders, were staring up at me through the windscreen in shock. I was embarrassed so I just muttered “sorry” and walked off.

    report it ….

my girlfriend had kids run out infront of her and several other cars in dundee coming off the riverside roundabouts heading to town centre. – doing 20/30

Kid was fine – she ran off , girlfriend called the cops and explained the situation

all caught on CCTV etc etc

Kids parents wanted her charged and they charged her – police said she could have braked slightly earlier according to the experts looking at the CCTV

lucky it got thrown out in court as a waste of court time. was bullshit and waste of time and stress for all involved.

I once knocked a nun clean off her feet on the Euston Rd on my heavy Muddy Fox Courier.
I apologised profusely (although not my fault). She said nothing and scurried away – I felt so bad.

My GF knocked over a lollipop lady. It was the third time it had happened as she used to virtually jump into the road when she saw a child 😯

I don’t know whether it’s a coping mechanism, but I see a fair few misses with pedestrians walking out in front of traffic – they seem to just chuckle to themselves embarrasingly instead of thinking ‘holy crapola I nearly died then’
