  • So I got a blood pressure tester…

147 over 87 with a pulse of 64… all charts show that I’m in the high blood pressure zone!

I don’t eat “crap” I’m on a low carb diet and have been for nearly 3 months… I’m overweight (just) 179lb at 5ft11..

I’ve got an office based job and manage to climb 1 night a week and ride a couple of hours on Sunday…

    Should I be worried?

    I’m 28.

My workmates is 138/99 with a 83 pulse… he’s 26 and eats crap for fun but is skinny as a rake!

One reading from sphygmomanometer means bog all.

    Eat carbs.

    Carbs are good.

Watch out for the binge-drinking monster.

See ‘essential hypertension’ (I have this). I’m not dead (yet). Started taking the tablets 7 years ago.

    Im 140/90, 64bpm, 40yrs old

My brother has the same BP, but his was 150/100 before medication, and he’s same age as me, but does 10% of the exercise and eats 200% more crap. And gets 500% more stressed.

Lots of things can affect the reading so you really need to repeat overall several hours/days.

FWIW, just measured mine at 113/72, 54bpm. Aged 57.

Pattern over time stuff, I get sky high readings whenever I go to the docs, at home it’s normal(ish).

I’ll occasionally do a “just out of bed” and “just before going to bed” reading.

On average I’m about 120/80 right on the line.

Think I’ll report back in a couple of weeks after more readings! maybe just caught a weird reading!

I do eat carbs but I just don’t buy high carb low benefit stuff like pasta, rice, bread ect..

I barely drink either – I’ll check the essential hypertension stuff and your post Stoner

Follow the guidance on how to take a reading – sitting down, feet on floor etc. Average 2 or 3 readings a minute or two apart. As said, take your readings over a week, perhaps twice a day. Then see what they look like – if still highish, get to GP for discussion.

My workmates is 138/99 with a 83 pulse.

If your workmate’s readings are consistently around those figures, he/she should see the Doc too – 99 is high for diastolic.

If it’s a wrist-type monitor you’ll get some funky readings if you’ve accidentally put it on upside down.

Last (& only) time I measured mine, it seemed more like a random number generator, all within 5 mins of each other:

Something over something with a 41bpm – am I supposed to care about these things? Seems like I should wait until I have something to actually be concerned about

@Legend, your micro-dosing regime may be bit out or are you getting up at 2am to ensure you move the blood around still? 😉

🙂 It did panic them enough to immediately send me for an ECG (I did get to 38, but 41 is my official count), which funnily enough told us that I have a low heart rate.

In no way is this related to the turbo setup in the bedroom

OP I have been around those numbers since my 20’s too (now 53) typically 140/90. Yes it would be worth thinking about diet / excersize / stress and keeping track of it. You are at the very top,lf normal, not high enough for medication but you should be aware of “the issue”

i have high blood pressure probably controlled by the daily pills. I say probably as i avoid checking. I used to get very high readings from the drs but lower with the specialist, an odd form of white coat hypertension ie having your blood pressure taken can give you high blood pressure . i did a 24 hour test that showed mostly lower readings ( it measured twice during cross examination of a witness and once going through a major junction on the bike ride home)

Best bet is get used to checks and get a spread of readings , high is manageable with tablets if they make you cough ask for the more expensive ones.

Is there any way that these can go out of calibration, or are they fairly stable? I’ve got one kicking about somewhere. in it’s box, barely used, could be 10-20 years old, though.

Not yet hammy! I’ll test it on a banana first if you want a review!

I’m going to get some more data and I’ll be back… thanks for the wisdom equally unhealthy guys

I’m the same which is why I got the home machine. At one point I thought maybe it wasn’t reading right, so I took it to the docs and took my blood pressure with my machine and with the machine in the surgery. Both read the same high thing, even though I was sitting quietly on my own. Crazy!

    Blood pressure … hmmm …

My uncle in the far east was told that he had low blood pressure several weeks ago.

    He died on Friday.

OP so you drink alot of coffee?

No espresso and my BPM is ultra low (42)/BP is low. A couple of espressos and both are UP (65bpm).

I do probably drink 5 fresh coffees a day… might be contributing 🙂

I asked similar a while back as the few times I’ve checked I’m in the region of 144/63. Keep meaning to buy a machine to check regularly. Doc doesn’t seem to think it is anything to worry about.

    What did you buy?

I drink at least as much coffee as that and don’t have an issue with BP.

    Edit: 105/65 now

    I’m overweight (just) 179lb at 5ft11..

My stats are the same and I wouldn’t say I was anywhere near overweight. But then my body fat levels are around 11%.

Get off the high card diet crap and go vegan, never look back.

Omron MX3 plus upper arm cuff unit highest I’ve seen from me was 181/115 a week later 128/68 same time of day.

Like DrJ I took mine into the nurse one day who got almost exactly the same readings as the Omron unit with her kit over 3 measurements 6 minutes apart each!

Just for reference its now 136/76 but my BPM is 87 as I have just run up & down stairs

    118/78 with a 41bpm 48yrs.
But as said, not relaxing for a bit beforehand makes a big difference.

Scotroutes caffeine sensitivity and/or individual strength preference may differ between individuals? I drink mine very thick/like mud. It turns mrsH green.
