LBS cant help till next week, but have generally avoided doing anything to hydraulic brakes whenever possible and need to get my Xtracycle up and running ASAP

Really easy. Make sure you have the right hose fittings and a good set of cutters for cutting the hose and it’s a doddle. Have some oil and the kit for bleeding and it really is easy. By kit I mean small hose which fits over the bleed nipple and a suitable receptacle to feed that into then it’s normally an 8mm spanner and the oil feeder bottle. Having said that it I guess the bleed kit reqd depends on the generation of shimano brakes you have as I’m not sure what you need for the newest generation but in general it’s very easy

8mm spanner for the hose nuts, 7mm for the bleed nipples.
