I turned up for HTN4 over the weekend. Can’t describe it as compete or race as it was as far away from that as possible.

I have decided though, to replace the Rockshox XC 28 forks with some carbon fibre ones. (I’d done a lap with the forks locked out and my wrists/back didn’t shatter)

the existing forks have a axle to crown height of 483mm

I have seen these on fleabay –

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271156558581?_trksid=p5197.c0.m619 – 45cm height and 38mm rake – 510g

    or

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/eXotic-Rigid-Carbon-29er-Fork-Disc-Specific-Post-Mount-46-5cm-Black-UD-Finish-/200807749977 – 46.5cm height 42mm rake – 790g

    Questions are –

Does dropping the front end of the bike by 33mm make a big difference or is the second one a better option at 18mm?

Also, the rake… I presume this is how much the crown sticks out in front of the steerer tube? and does this make a difference?

    Thanks very much in advance..

Btw, my preference is the lighter and prettier one! 🙂

Are you comparing measurements with or without the sag of your existing bouncy forks?

    ah thanks…

with the unsaggy height. (tbh they don’t sag a huge amount)

I’ll get jump on it tonight and measure the height avec sag!

so the other question is this rake measurement, does that affect steering reaction?

    Cheers!

I’ve never really looked into it a great deal, I’ve got Nukeproofs on a 26er and On One forks on a 29er. Just bought the recommended length for wheel size and stuck ’em on. Never considered the rake to be honest. Never had any problems with steering or position etc.

I’ve a pair of uncut, used twice Carbon On-one forks going begging if you want them..

Gonna give them a couple of commutes, but If I don’t get on with them, they are going on the Classifieds.

If your selling, I am interested in the forks?

I’ve just sold my 29er Exotics, but would recommend them- never missed a beat, not the stiffest mind but that translates into more compliance (think of it as sideways travel 😉 ).
