Me and a pal are doing a charity walk next year.

We want something hard, obviously, to entice money from pockets.

Is idwal cottage, to pen y pass, up the pyg track and down either rhyd ddu or watkins path to beddgelert doable in a single day?

have considered the yorkshire 3 peaks and also the snowdon challenge (pontllyfni to snowdon and back).

ideally it’ll be about marathon distance and hilly!

Isn’t the 3000ers a peak to peak challenge? If so you’ll need to add in the walk to the start and from the finish!?

The length is about 24 miles, but the walks to the start point and down from the finish point can take it to over 30 miles in total.

Ogwen valley mountain resue do an eight peak challenge called “Oggie8”. Good fun but low key.

The Welsh 3000s is a major undertaking and requires very good luck with the weather, never mind food & hydration planning, route finding and getting to and from the start/end. 18hrs is probably a good target time for it if you’re walking. If you can run/walk then 8-12hrs is a better target.
A slightly shorter but still very tough route is the Welsh 1000m peaks and is well worth considering. There is a fell run that does this route.

cheers fella’s. I did read about the welsh 3000’s and did think it might be tricky in poor weather, we’re thinkin late april. Will check out the other ideas later.

We would be takint in other peaks wherever possible!

Have a look at the LDWA database, there’s 3 ideas of about the right distance in southern Snowdonia too.

No doubt there’s dozens and dozens more dotted about the country
