Me and the wife are just starting snowboarding, done a few lessons at the Milton Keynes & Hemel Domes. The hire Helmets in Milton Keynes are in a word minging, so we're after a couple of starter helmet to get us on our way.

So far we're thinking either a cheapo Trespass c.£25 helmet or entry level Salomon (Rock & Icon) c.£70

Does anyone have any recommendations or advice on what to go for?

Demon do some reasonable ones for £35 where you can replace the ear pieces and put headphone ones in.
I have a good Rossignol which cost about £35 in France and has done me for a good 4 years or so! Think it's just a case of trying them on (live a bike helmet) and seeing what fits your head shape.

Took me ages to find one that fitted me. And, like bike helmets, fit is the most important thing. Bern are good, as are Smith and Rossignol.

Good call with on-one they do indeed still do them…

    Thanks MC, currently Googling away.

I know what you mean with trying before you buy, maybe I should ask a "What Snowboarding helmet for a large HEX helmet wearer" 8)

I got my helmet from Decathlon. It's warm (have worn it in minus 15) and even looks o.k.
    Not too expensive there either.

I got my gf one of the on one ones (too many ones in this sentence) 🙂

Seems pretty decent and very similar to mine which cost about £40.

Vents are good, as are removable earpieces. You want something that won't boil your head.

I bought an on-one helmet ages ago as a temporary one for snowdome use – have taken it on holiday a few times since. Good kit.
