My son (6) wants to go up a hill with snow on it. I was planning on doing that this xmas hols. Should be easy I thought earlier in the year, but it seems the mile winter has scuppered my plans for the peaks or berwyns (options 1 & 2) as they appear to be a bit barren of snow at the moment.

So where’s the nearest snowy peak to Leicestershire or Oswestry to give my lad a winter dadventure?

I had some on the ground outside the office in Stirling at lunch.

If there’s any webcams around you that you can check on then that will be a start. Also keep an watch on the weather and which direction systems are coming from: if there’s a mass of cold air coming south due to the jet stream moving along with some precipitation then you stand a good chance. Sometimes it’s just the first line of hills that gets the snow, everything else is in the rain (snow) shadow. So a North easterly could cover the Berwyns and Arennig but leave Snowdon itself clear, similarly a westerly storm could cover all the main Snowdonia ranges but there’ll be nothing further inland.

Some sleet blew through at lunchtime ,I shouted at it to come back when it was proper snow.
