We served it to a Slovakian friend and partner at dinner last weekend….they thought they had a water infection..ha.
She had never had or heard of it.
    How we laughed.

The ‘aroma’ is a genetic thing. Only about 50% of the population are blessed with it…

The ability to detect it the aroma is I believe the genetic element.

Both the ability to produce and detect the smell appear to be be not universal

Chargrilled in an omelette or risotto or old skool steamed with a little hollandaise for me.

hate the stuff. Even if it’s cooked in a dish and then removed from my portion, the rest of my meal is completely ruined. The taste permeates everything.

    Yuck.

I used to go in a lovely bike ride in Kent that finished at a PYO Asparagus place . Good times.

Best cooked in a griddle pan then on to the plate , squeeze of lemon and some maldon salt

I’ve got a dozen spears already out the ground.
    Can’t wait to eat them.
Prob raw straight out the ground.
    Yum!
    (And yes, mine smells)

complete organ failure and terminal haemeroid rupture after an excess of beetroot…

Ha! I was recommended to drink beetroot juice to lower blood pressure. Imagine my horror on glancing at the bowl following the morning communion with the porcelain throne! Terror doesn’t even come close to describing it. I thought I’d shat internal organs.

Beetroot soup for the first time made me call my wife in a panic.
My 4 year old loves the red wee afterwards. The poo still worries me
