My duffle coat is beginning to look tatty (after 8 years thats not bad). any suggestions on nice looking but warm coats?

this looks more warm than smart:
    quicksilver

but this looks more smart than warm:
    john lewis

Anyone think of a decent compromise?

    thanks

Canada goose for ultimate warmth, depends on your definition of ‘smart’ though. Private White and Wolsey do some nice warm coats that are more traditional (and warm)

Saw a really good one earlier in the sale on Paul Costelloe’s website.

Hmm, need one myself that isn’t too outdoor sports, but offers that level of winter defence.

    Will bookmark this thread.

GANT jacket at Fenwick for £195 but I cannot find picture of it on interweb … 😮

It has no hood with detachable fleece collar.

edit: found it … like this but in blue.

It’s called Gant ‘The Barn’ Detachable Shearling Collar Jacket or
    GANT Moleskin Barn Jacket

    Like this in blue

I bought one of these in the autumn, seems nice and warm, and reasonably smart too.

Looking to get a Pea Coat myself for a slightly smarter look than my usual CWU-45P flying jacket or my Trialmaster.
My Spyker leather bike jacket looks ok, but Pea Coats are lighter and warm and look good with pretty much anything.

Personally I don’t think you can beat grey or navy. Black is too, black lol (insert Gok Wan pic)

It’s worth checking the Jaeger outlet for stuff like this sometimes, we got one of these: for £37.50 a couple of weeks back as they have flash sales and also allow discount stacking. It’s warm enough for anything I can envisage wearing smart clothing for.

Cos is a good place for coats that look a bit different in a Scandinavian minimalism kind of way.

@marko75 – the coat in that gant link looks a couple of sizes too small!

I like jigsaws new menswear range for the office and perregrine for the weekends. Both warm and well made, good fit.

Edit, I have a few pea coats from jigsaw from the Cheshire Oakes branch, very good value. The manageress was gorgeous too who serving me.

Howies and Merrell both do great happy medium jackets. I’ve got both, and they’re both quality bits of kit, that’ll last. You can get away with smart for work, or moseying down to the pub in either. Or heading into the hills.
