I would like to build a bike up for my wife who is 5’2, nothing hardcore but she did say she might like to ‘get into proper biking’… ideas?

Mrs_oab is a lofty 5′, and we replaced her wonderful but aged Cannondale (still lightest bike) with a new Superfly on C2W

To add – fit is everything. Get her to try bikes out, invest in saddle/grips/bars that fit, especially when you are short of stature and narrow of shoulder.
Mrs_oab doesn’t like the colour, however Trek clearly apply shrink it n pink it to small frames. No other colours available in that size 🙄

My gf has a small specialised rumor for sale. They are a great fit for anyone who is small. Would that be of interest?

Have an XS Giant Talon 1W that teen2 grew out of. Very small frames are hard to find as they sell out quickly. Lovely bike and currently unused 🙁

For road we also had a Giant Avail. Again an XS. That one has been moved on, but they do turn up on ebay.

Mrs Thwap would be out off by the ‘patronising pink’ but it looks like a nice bike. Where was it from Matt?

Not after a full suss and would rather get a frame and spec it out to be honest

How about an xs Niner EMD

Been very happy with mine – I am a wee bit taller though at 5ft 3″ ish…..and I chose to put a pink saddle on it 🙂

    This was/is a 2009 XS Commencal Normal

    Daughters bike

She is currently 4’11”, so room to grow. And, crucially, half an inch taller than her mum, who rides a Pinnacle Kauri.

whatever frame you get, don’t ignore the cranks.

MsWife has 140’s, they can be a challenge to find, but they’re as important to ‘fit’ as anything else.

(i’d need to try 230mm cranks to see how awful 165’s must feel for a tiny rider)

i bought some SRAM S600 cranks, for £40, and then sent them to Highpath for the shortening, who did a great job.

or Zee cranks can be shortened – if you need something with a thru-axle…

What kind of bike hard tail or FS? I have a Giant Cypher full sus small that will be for sale and would fit her as I’m 5ft 4 and selling it as I feel it is too small for me. Let me know if interested as it would be cheap as 26 inch wheels but immaculate condition. Can email pics over if you want.

Lovely looking bike morecash, that is exactly what I would like to do. Niner is nice but way over budget.

Evans – we had got the C2W for local shop, went in to order and Trek / Importer had none in ickle size. Cue some calling around until it transpired that Evans had three in…

I agree the pink is just the wrong thing. Mrs_OAB had tried the Scott, Cannondale and Trek (next size up) out and liked the feel of the Trek the most. At some point I will get it painted I think.
