  • SLX Double/Bash – which Chainrings?

Bought 2nd hand SLX double/bash cranks on here but will need a middle ring.

I see Shimano do a specific 36t one for the double/bash set up – does it have to be this one or will a standard 32t SLX/XT middle ring fit meantime?

I assume I could also go for say a 34t Blackspire middle ring?

    Any help would be appreciated.

it is just standard Shimano BCD
    I swapped my 36 for a 32 without issue

tried a 36 but didnt like, seemed to be missing gears on a 2008 orange five and a 2009 on one 456 both with 34 cassette on the back, local cheekys are big climbs then long XCs with rocky DHs at the end and a long XC back to base.

prefare a 34t on both bikes, both have a bash and blackspire stingers

get a steel ring they last a lot longer and are cheaper, aluminium rings are pointless unless your a weenie.

    just my opinion anyway.

according to shimano the slx middle is 100% stronger than the xt with only a tiny weight difference.

I have exactly this on my SLX “double&bash crankset”, with a chain guide and no bash.
