So the Silent Wave Motor has died in out 18-135 nikkor Af lens

replacements are not cheap but weve been quoted 150 quid to fix

has anyone dissasembled an AF lens themselves (the motor can be bought on ebay for 20 quid) is it madness to think I could fix it myself?

What lens is it? Is it a 55-200?
Depends on age and value of the lens maybe as it may not be economically viable now.

I would have thought you’d need exceptionally clean conditions. If I had the tools, the conditions and a good guide, I reckon I’d have a crack for £20. If that’s all you stand to lose then maybe it’ll be a nice little project in the satisfaction stakes.
