  • Slick 29er tyre for road use…?

Looking to take my 29er on some road events (100+ miles) & would obviously like to use some slicks or similar. They'll be going onto Stans Arch rims, so I'm assuming standard road tyres will be too narrow…? Any suggestions? Cheers

    arch is a 19.

according to this http://www.sheldonbrown.com/tire-sizing.html red and green table

you can use a 28c tyre.

    gatorskin maybe?

Arch has a 19mm inner width. I think an Open Pro road rim is 15mm. Any wide road tyre should be OK I reckon.
    Summink like this?

I'd look at something 28-32mm wide. Most tyres in this size tend towards being thicker more touring oriented tyres, so look to something lighter and with a more pliable casing – something like the Panaracer Pasela would be nice, Grand Bois would be my #1 choice, but the Pasela is a lot cheaper and availabler.

Oh jeezus, I didn't put two and two together – no way are you putting road tyres in that bike Mark! 😉

Cheers Sam, I promise the Pegasus won't be used on the road *too* much 😀 . I'll wear my Singular jersey for on-the-road advertising for ya!

I'll second the Pasela. I've get the 35mm on road bike. Supple casing so they are comfy and fast for their size

"Wider tires roll better than narrow ones. This assertion
generally generates skepticism, nevertheless at the same
tire pressure a narrow tire deflects more and so deforms
    more."
    Page15
"Why do wide tires roll better than
    narrow ones?
The answer to this question lies in tire deflection.
Each tire is flattened a little under load. This creates
    a flat contact area.
At the same tire pressure, a wide and a narrow tire have
the same contact area. A wide tire is flattened over its
width whereas a narrow tire has a slimmer but longer
    contact area.
The flattened area can be considered as a counterweight
to tire rotation. Because of the longer flattened area of
the narrow tire, the wheel loses more of its “roundness”
and produces more deformation during rotation.
However, in the wide tire, the radial length of the
flattened area is shorter, making the tire “rounder” and
    so it rolls better."

Panaracer Ribmo in 622-32 or 622-35

SJS have them, grippy and puncture resistant
