My ancient tensioner has given up the ghost (it’s so old that I can’t remember what brand it was, but it was crap) so I wonder what are the current best buy is. It must be cheap, likely to be available in an LBS (none of this online malarky) and have a very strong, adjustable spring tension.

    Your thoughts please.

Either buy online from on one etc or go look in your lbs as they will know what they stock.

I’ve got 2 on-one tensioners (I know you said not online, but they’re fairly generic and I’m sure a LBS could source something similar). One on a singlespeed, one on an alfine 8. Bith work with no issues, no chain slippage etc. with good tension

This http://www.charliethebikemonger.com/4jeri-tensioner-29-p.asp, not the quietest, the metal guide rubs if you run a 1/8th chain, I took the guard off as it’s pointless anyway.
