    Please recommend me one of the above.

    Have a square taper BB and a freewheel conversion kit at the back with lots of spacers to get the chainline right.

    Previous one was a Miche – lasted about 3 years after approx. 40 miles a week. Was only £25 though.

    I’ve simply used (with great success) XT or LX ST cranks, singlespeed chainrings (Surly have been grand), short chainring bolts..

    The cranks were second hand and in fact donated for free anyway.
