Yes. Public sector staff serve the country. It’s a despicable act to force them to pay more for less whilst the private sector (who got us into this mess) remains unregulated.

Yes – and seeing as others have commented……

I don’t work in the public sector (I do work for a charity though)

This latest Autumn Statement is an absolute disgrace – it’s quite clear that this government intends for the poor and ordinary workers to take the brunt of our current financial problems, while the most well off get away scot free.

I work in the private sector and have seen too many people get f**ked over without a whimper – it’s good to see a stand being taken.

The ‘NO’ crowd are all very shouty with their caps locks on aren’t they?

    YES.

Dogbert – it’s not a ‘free day off’ – you don’t get paid if you strike (at least not in my NHS Health Board you don’t).

DJ – self-employed public sector worker, in Public Health within the NHS but the Welsh Government pay me (oh yes it is complicated).

Because the “Yes” crowd are greedy and they have never had it so good.

No. There’s not a lot of spare money around. So MPs to set an example and take a paycut.

Interestingly I know a fair few council workers indirectly who’ll be working today and are rather annoyed at the majority of the staff in the unions who’re running around in the days leading up to this saying “what are you doing on your day off, it’s nice to have a holiday isn’t it”. Seems to me there’s plenty of screwed up thinking going on.

TBH you can pretty much say with certainty that if the Daily Mail and The Sun are screaming at you to hate something, it’s almost certainly the right thing to do.

No. There’s not a lot of spare money around.

There’s plenty of spare money around, it’s just that more and more of it goes into the hands of fewer and fewer people every day – the unions are one of the only forces left in society that can counteract that in any way at all.

On the one hand I think they should be grateful they are so much better off than the rest of us but on the other, I keep thinking of:
