A good feature in strava is to enable heatmaps in the route builder feature. That way, if you aren’t sure of some local routes, you can see what everybody else has been riding.

Not 100% sure if this is just a premium feature or not, but on the main menu choose ‘Dashboard’ and then ‘My Routes’. On the new page click on the ‘create new route’ button. Click on the ‘map settings’ cog icon and enable ‘global heatmap’.
