Show me your whippet's... the on one carbon variety please

No photos of it on the trail I'm afraid.
This was it fresh from the box:


It's first ride was when I rode it at the 'Puffer and the non-drive side crank fell off during lap 4* and when servicing it when I returned home I noticed that the very small amount of clearance between the inner chainring tabs and the BB casing has resulted in the mud grinding in to the carbon shell.
I am happy with the way it rides and am very happy with the bike's VFM however I can't help but feel disappointed about the previously mentioned issue. It's hardly 'fit for purpose' as far as winter UK riding is concerned in the spec its sold in.
I have read that the XT chainring has better clearance(?)*Granted I should have perhaps checked over the bike before the race

Have you found a suitable workaround? Did On-One have any comments, or are you swapping your crankset for something with more clearance?

I guess solution would be to move a spacer from non-drive to drive side on the BB? Probably wouldn;t affect chainline too badly.

Speaker outlets and skirting boards actually but tbh, that's the least of my worries at the moment

Not far off it! Our interior designer had a day off and I went shopping. Dwell and Budda Bag also got a hammering
The bike is/was the stock SLX spec'd bike that One One are/were selling at £999.
I've not ridden it since the 'Puffer tbh. I've put the crank back on but it's still sitting without a chain. I'm not willing to change the crankset as I feel the one supplied should be suitable for riding in this country without damaging the bike.
If I'm honest I've yet to contact On One directly re. this (I'm a bit dejected with it atm and it's sitting at the back of the garage unused having covered very few miles, damaged itself and fallen to bits.) I did comment on the FB page but heard nothing back.
Once I get motivated to go back to it again I will send pics and details to On One and see what they've to say. Their sister company (Planet X) were fantastic with my road bike so I have high hopes.
For now I'm happily riding around my freshly serviced Bionicon.Posted 1 year ago # -
I had this exact problem with my zesty - oversized bb shells are probably more trouble than they're worth. Thankfully I only really ground a bit of paint off mine before I spotted it. I solved it by filing down the granny ring tabs, and I havent had a single issue since(I don't think I could have got anything on warranty for a bit of scratched paint). If yours has damaged the carbon you might have a better case. Otherwise, get the file out!

I haven't finished building it yet, but here is my wife's 16" Whippet:

It hasn't been ridden yet, first ride this weekend.
When I was putting it together I was a bit concerned over how little clearance there was around the BB shell. A couple of minutes with a Dremmel on the granny ring helped things out. It seems to be the problem with running a 3x drive train on a bike with internal bearings - as the granny ring wants to sit over the bearings:

ouch! bugger all clearance there - first bit of chain suck and your wifes carbon frame will be chewed up

From that angle you can't really see the chain ring clearance to the frame. Between the big ring and the chainstay there is about the width of a chain, and more between the middle and chainstay. I have checked and it is about the same as on my carbon Scale - although the Scale has a metal plate in the area, which would have been a nice addition on the Whippet.

nice looking bike that. How tall is your wife btw? Not sure wether i need a 16 or 18". i will be test riding before hand obviously... it is a worry about the bb and chainring position though isnt it?

actually I was disappointed when they didn't sell me a black one after waiting for ages. But the white /red looks better built up than their frame pics.
I guess running it SS would sort the BB clearance problem....

ive noticed that. the red and white one looks much better in other peoples photos than it seems to on their website. surely though if on one supply it with a triple chainset it must work?

jonny m, my wife is 5'4". The seatpost is at the same height as she has it on her 16" sliding drop out SS Inbred, so will probably stay the same height on this one.
As far as I can see any BB92 frame is going to have the same issue with a granny ring. On-One say on their site that the frame was designed around a 2x drive train. The granny ring may have been fine without trimming (although in Barney's case it obviously wasn't), it only took a couple of minutes with a power tool to improve the clearance and make it not an issue.
Shortcut, just wait until next week, you better have your fast legs on!

Just what I want to know? It is this issue that is stopping me getting one.
Would you buy a 5 speed car, and then modify when you got home to actually make it work properly?????
Im certainly not going to buy a bike that I need to dremel bits from to make it work!
This is dissapointing as I really want one, esp now they £999

The really simple reason were currently building whippetts with 3 by 10 speed is because there is extremely little SRAM 2 by 10 available and we literally cant build any more than a handful of bikes - except in XX but thats going to be a 2.5-3k build .
We have a massive price target of 999 to try to get into the cyclescheme market , and the only way we can currently do it is with shimano 3 by 10 SLX , which we have just bough a boatload at a great deal . Clearance is on the tight side, but its a bit of a juggling act with availability / price and our mechanics were ok with the build .
Weve got a batch of 2 by 10 prebuilt complete bikes coming in a couple months , but for now were having to work with what weve got and were trying to be very competitive in the marketplace and sometimes theres a bit of sacrifice made.
Were going to try out an alfine whippett next week on stans crest rims - this might be a decent build , and I dont reckon far off 999 , going to build one to test , so there will be a 20 test bike avaiable at rotherham if anyone wants a go .

Anyone else struggling to find a 1x9 chain guide to fit? obviously can't use bb or iscg which is what most are, and the seat tube mounted ones are for conventional round frame tubes.
thinking about making a bracket to mount the guide part of an mrp 1x.

Not seen an off the shelf 1x9 guide yet, so i made my own, and been trying to find the time to gat a better one made up.....

has now got SRAM X9 1x9 set up , a high roller on the front with a bit more mud clearance and is in need of a chain guide.

i'm also having this dilema with the frame and whether to purchase and will it work in the real world with a triple chainset. to be fait to on one is this not more of a problem with internal/intigrated BB than the design of the frame. ie is the bb just too big to allow any sensible clearance. What experience have other people got with other manufacturers, such as giant, trek, whyte, specialized BB30 and BB92 frames. Any photos of these ?

I have to agree it's terrible, however I saw my first one in the flesh today and it's actually not too bad, but I can't see past that outline of a dog on the head tube and for that reason I won't get one which is a shame as I love my scandal and the whippet is the only frame I would change it for.
