What lights for a Big Hitterâ„¢?

It's the ex cathedra non-debatable statements of fact.

Wow! I genuinely never thought I'd see a Pope Pius IX reference on STW. O Level History was useful for something after all.

As always, wise words from druidh...but please don't let that stop this thread, its been hilarious!

. What's even more mysterious is that you were once a regular on mlehworld

He was probably blocked by one of the mods who only wanted their point of view put forward (or was to chicken to debate in public and risk looking bad.a 'it's my ball and if I can't win i'm taking it home' scenario if you will) it's happened before I assure you

Druidh - thank you for that. I was aware I had pissed you off and I am sorry for that. It would not be hypocritical in my eyes to join in with things I had arranged especially the path repair stuff and it would be a shame if you did not.

Clearly its pointless to discuss cynic al with you further. Just to say that its not "banter in the pub" nor is it the same as the pisstaking on mleh. Its been a deliberate and sustained campaign and many people have asked me why he behaves like that towards me. So it clearly is not just in my mind

As a mate to you both off here in real world, please can we just go to the pub and chat and get over it in person. Presuming of course you both fancy making this kind of thread stop.

How does a week Wednesday sound?

    Wise words druid.

I'm happy the rest of you find it entertaining - but it's not that important to me, nor does it take up any significant amount of time, though I guess that's easy to believe as it comes out on these epic battle threads...which take attention away from my other normal input (positive, helpful, cheeky, carbon/cutlery etc )

TJ - on the whole, you're a good egg

Now do yourself a favour and back out of this and take it up with onion via email or - better still - the phone

It's never going to end well airing it in public

Get help. In the real world, with real people, who really know you. On here you come across as, at best, hopelessly deluded. Maybe it's an act, maybe you're a lovely fella in real life. I really hope so.

Al annoys folk by putting in effort

I would not want to be either of you but have no issue with either of you
TBH I would give you both a skelp and send you to bed without your tea.

    this.

I guess at least Al has the self awareness to know he's doing it, even if he lacks the self control necessary to stop.

With TJ I fear the problem is insoluble because there's no acceptance there may be actually be an issue that needs addressing.

    IMO, this ^^^^

This thread is in danger of becoming so knowingly self-referential that its inevitable implosion up its own a*se may well take the entire universe with it.

TJ has issues. He cannot see an opinion that doesn't correspond with his rather narrow view of the world without brow-beating the other poster into submission. This can be witnessed in any thread where the benefits of helmets are promoted, where anyone dares to suggest that jumping red lights is wrong and God forbid you should complain about the price of fuel! Where brow-beating does not work he just gets nasty, see threads on Christianity. When pulled up on his compulsive behaviour, he either denies it (see earlier on this thread) or pulls the "Edinburgh Defense" i.e. "I didn't mean it like that..." or "I was taken out of context..."

He likes to present himself as a free thinking, left leaning libertarian. In reality he is quite an unpleasant bully who, like many bullies, plays the victim when things don't go his way.

I'll butt out now. It's Friday and the "Beer Clock" is firmly in count down mode!

this ^ as with alcoholism the first step to recovery is admitting there's a problem. good luck with that.

You may think that but please also consider that in real life he is actually very unlike his on line persona. Very un-argumentative and will listen to other angles. He is man enough to stick up for himself so i won't but there does seem to be a lot of picking on him. He never seems to pick on others or leave snidey tags but he will argue blindly that he is right. Never will he resort to insulting though. (Unless i have never read this happening).

As a friend of his, I will stick up for him so please consider what you are typing about him. If you wouldn't say it to his face don't tag it on here.

I'm prepared to accept that thebikechain but he has to also understand that his approach just winds one here people up and they sometimes go out of their way to take a dig at him.

It's a bit sad all round really but I can't see it changing until TJ becomes more like you say he is in reality on here and accepts he can't change peoples minds by banging on about somethign until they give up and walk away.

in real life he is actually very unlike his on line persona.

Like it or not, the social interactions he, or anyone else, has on here is part of real life - hence why TJ himself has indirectly made that point about the impact of Al's comments on him. I'm not trying to get at TJ, or Al, but people can only interact with the 'TJ' who turns up on here - and he's already acknowledged from his own experience that people can be genuinely hurt by the way they get treated in an online forum.

EDIT - I seem to recall that Grumpy Mark has made that point repeatedly in multiple moderatorial comments over the years!

    Still this nonsense?

Now it's 3 people what apparently were friends in Real Life, arguing about stuff?

The 3 of you are a fantastic advert for Scotland. Displaying so much warmth, friendliness and tolerance for others...

It's a real shame he courts it so well - intentionally or not.

If you mean TJ, druid and me, Tj's arguing with me and druid - TJ is English. druid and I are not arguing with each other - we're both celts, TVM.

And if you are actually being serious, I'd say the problems of racism and intolerance are much greater darn sarf than up here....have you ever even been up here?

This, which would lead me to believe that a nice long ban for Al is the best solution.

BUT THEN the bikechain tells me that TJ isn't like this in real life: Which must mean that TJ is just as responsible for this tossfest of pain and misery as Al is.

So, please Santa, can we have a six month ban for both of them?
