  • Should I replace my BB?

    Bear with me 🙂

My bike is in bits following my frame bearing traumas
Ive eventually removed all the buggers and its taken ages

In the meantime Ive stripped the whole thing back to bare bones removing the crankset etc etc

If I was going to replace the BB I cant think of a better time
Im a lazy arse and hate maintenance

On the other hand it seems fine – no play or crunching at all

And on the other hand a new Shimano BB wont break the bank and will be easy to screw in whilst the bike is in bits

And on the other other hand theres nothing wrong with the current one which will be a b4stard to remove and probably cause even more trauma and stress

    opinions welcome 🙂

My opinion is that you're a cack handed gibbon and that you should step away from the vehicle. 😀

It really does only take 100 mins to change a bb… if the bearings are fine, then you should carry on using it and just pull the crank off and change it when needed…

take it out, check it, clean & grease the shell threads

then put it back if it's OK

It's easier to swap a BB on a built bike. And it doesn't need changed. So, leave it alone.

And on the other other hand

You could pull it to bits and clean it out and get some fresh grease into it if you feeling a bit dardevil, if there isnt anything wrong with it then a little tlc will keep it spinning indefinately…

This is a guide on replacing the bearings but if you have got the good bearings out your not far off removing the lip seal and adding fresh grease.
