I’d forget about trying to avoid a bleed. Best to do it after a job like this.
I used some normal cable cutters to cut my braided hoses when I shortened mine. You have to make sure you get the whole hose in the cut though. They’re quite chunky so it’s easy to not quite cut through the whole cable, then it’s very difficult to tidy it up with a second cut. You can get a proper tool for cutting hydraulic hoses.
I would buy a replacement olive, you can get them off and put them back on again. But they also break easily when you open then up. You don’t want it to break on you and be stuck with everything in bits. They can also leak of it’s not a tight fit.
