    Im sure ive read somewhere that this is a no-no? but thinking id like to swap the Deore RD-M615 mech that comes as standard on a genesis carbou with a short cage Zee mech i already have… will i explode?

    It’s the size of the cassette that dictates the mech length not the frame

    oh thanks. i believe its a CS-HG50 11-36T – so that should be alright then…?

    11-36 is going to be a bit of a stretch for a short cage. I think 28 is the biggest you can run with a short. Medium will work (ish), the max spread is really 11-32.

    Edit: Yep, 28 for the DH spec, (Short) and 36 for the freeride (medium)

    I am running a 34 N/W – 11-40 with a Zee on a Fatty and a Puffin with no problems
    both bike just done the Puffer and still zero issues

    im pretty sure my mech is the 32-36 wide ratio one, but ill have to double check…

    hot_fiat- the freeride is still a short cage, just set up differently. I (along with many others I’ve seen) run a Zee FR with a 36T cassette just fine.

    So long as you have a single ring up front it’ll work fine.

    Ah, the random numbers on the shimano website makes sense now.

    I run a Zee with 32 front 11 – 36 rear on 2 Fat Bikes and have 22 upfront as well I just cant use 3 smallest cogs when in the 22 tooth – not needed anyway apart from that all works fine 😀
