  • Shoogly L/h Crank Arm – have I gubbed it?

Noticed a slight wobble in the left crank arm on my Aeris the other day at Glentress. Stopped immediately and nipped it up again but it worked itself loose again 10 miles or so into my next ride.

Bike’s around 4 months old, and I know – I should have checked the pinch bolts sooner.

Question is – have I gubbed the crank or will the strip, clean up and dollop of blue Locktite I applied this afternoon be enough?

*Edit – I appreciate a few more details may be useful…

    XT M8000 1 x 11 cranks, btw.

How tight did you nip it?

The pinch bolts need to be pretty tight (12 – 14 Nm ??) which feels more like ‘just about to strip’ rather than a nip.

Might be worth taking the arm off and cleaning everything up. If there’s a lot of minced aluminium, then it’s probably goosed. Otherwise grease it up and re-fit, making sure that the bolts are tightened to the correct torque and tightened to that torque alternately, then see if it lasts.
