Has anyone used Shimano Ultegra 6700 wheels for cyclocross
and are they tough enough ?
I use Mavic askiums and had no issues but would
like a new set. The other option seems to be hope hubs
    with Mavic open pros.

    Thanks.

My rims didn’t fare well at all, they kept true but full of dings. Like you say Askiums are tough as old boots, one more year on mine then new Open Pros.

mavic with hopes all day long!

im not a fan of shimano hubs as they are cup and cone bearings and collect shyte.

i have 2 sets of hopes and a pair of shimano. the shimano wheels are not used unless i puncture both wheels

any rim will ding if you run the tyres too soft…lighter ones moreso perhaps.

tubs are your cx friend, no? silly light and cheap rims, no punctures.

I run my askiums as tubeless with Hutchinson tyres
no problem. I have read the open pros are tough
    to get tyres on though.

If you tear or damage a tub while out on a ride
is it time to walk home ? I don’t fancy carrying a spare
wheel rather than a tube in my jersey pocket !

i use tubs for racing and would never use them on a training ride!

tubs tyres are £100 each end (roughly)

also tub rims are just as expensive as normal rims but are harder to get.

open pros are they way to go from past experience. mine are 2 years old and are still true after 2 years as cx wheels and now on my main road bike.

they will be be getting cx tyres on them in the winter and be used again this year.

Used for last couple of years with hutchinson tubeless Cx tyres, stayed true with no major dings
Hubs still running good and smooth, used on the road with intensive tubeless tyres as well

    Fair enough.

I’d use alphas but then I am a convert.
