I bought a SLX shadow + mech not so long ago, brand new. Thing is it seems to have lost all its tension and on last Thursdays ride I slipped the chain and on todays ride down to Kinver edge it was really slapping the chain around on the chainstay.
Are these mechs adjustable? Can they be retensioned easily?

    Thanks Nathan

Is the wee lever set to on or off?

If you had the clutch turned on, it might just need a little more tension on it. Instructions here

10 minute job – assuming that’s the problem.

I had an SLX and it had corroded a tiny bit inside the clutch so i removed the cover – removed the clutch, cleaned up with GT85 and greased it, back to PERFECT

I’ve just had the very same problem with an XT shadow + mech.

Cluth was clean and greased but it still had no tension.

Stripped it down further and found that the P axel was dry in the body.
Cleaned and grease that and it’s working well again.

    Edit.

It won’t need any more tension on the adjuster screw from your description of what’s happening.

It’ll either be the clutch is dirty or the P axel is dry.
