Thinking about going for some of the platform style shimano SPD’s to give a bit more support when i cant clip in straight away, and also when riding the bike with trainers.

Are the PD-M424 ones with the plastic cage OK, or is it worth spending more on the metal caged M545?

Any opinions on these type of pedals compared to normal M520 (which ive been using for years) appreciated.

I have the DX ones and they are fab good platform and still tough. Really cant fault them!

plastic ones are a bit lighter, i wouldn’t ride far in trainers on them though, v slippy in the wet with trainers too

I’ve some PD-M424s and I wouldn’t ride them without spd shoes either. And I don’t really notice any additional support compared to eggBs clipped in.

Probably better off with those ones with spd one side an all flat the other.

Then again what do I know, if you want to do a swap…
