    Hi all

Anybody done this or similar? Got a set of Shimano brakes with leaky callipers and a set of Hayes with terminally ill levers. Would it even work?

They use different fluid. Shimano uses mineral and Hayes uses dot. Not cross compatible

I managed to use a shimano caliper with a hope lever for over 2 years with no-one dying in the process. Bled it with dot fluid and it worked fine.
You may as well try it….

Also have a couple of Avid Elixir levers kicking around which are also DOT, might try patching them together. Just unsure whether there’ll be different pull ratios between brands that might screw up the system when mixed..

Its bad enough mixing different brand levers and calipers, but different fluid types as well?
Hope you’ve got a good dentist.
