Poll – Index finger or thumb?

Both, but not at the same time as that wouldn’t work

I seem to only use my thumb.

Either/both as the mood takes me.

I like breaking my own rules.

Was confused for a minute – I thought you were talking about MTB shifters 😮

I use Campag these days which uses a different type of shift lever but when I was on Shimano, it was middle finger 🙂

Uh? Down shifting the rear mech? Ie onto a bigger sprocket? With your index finger? How does that even work?

You people disgust and frighten me 🙂

I have a feeling shimano shifters are going to be index downshift only in the future…potentially only leaving me with SRAM (which I’ve never liked) 🙁

Thumb if im sitting down. Index finger if im standing as I tend to rotate my hands forward a bit. Just whatever is more comfortable

Two of my bikes are Shimano, the third is SRAM.

Having being a fan of anything that isn’t Shimano since 2005 I have to say that SLX and XT are a very pleasant surprise…they’re nicely clicky and TBH they’re maintenance free, distant memories of mech and shifter barrel adjusters are thankfully just that.

My X9s though feel agricultural, they won’t engage top gear without careful timing of the shifter and the ergonomics aren’t perfect. I do occasionally shift with my trigger finger when weighting the bars.

Not surprisingly, I have a set of XT on order for bike no 3.

Thumb 86%, index finger 14% on Shimano.

I really do like the idea of Toby Henderson’s new one thumb lever shifters, though.
