    Hi All

Would anyone be able to confirm that 105 STi levers will work with a XT shadow mech. I’m unsure if the cable ratios are different nowadays? I have a frankenbike project brewing!

I think Road and MTB 10 speed have different pull ratios – they were the same for 9 speed.

Nope, you need a 9 speed RD-M772 XT rear mech like this –

Yes, no problem. Theoretically it won’t like a 36t sprocket, in reality it’ll be absolutely fine.

All Shadow mechs are rated to 36T, even the 9 speed ones.

I think the cassette sprocket spacing is different from 10spd road and 10spd MTB stuff, so it may not work.
Edit, aparently yes they are the same spacing, its the lever pull and the mech leverage thats different between MTB and road.

If it helps, I’m running 105 shifters, 9spd XT rear mech, 10spd XT 11-36 cassette, XT cranks with 50-34 chainrings and a CX-70 front mech on a Singular Gryphon.

You have to be careful when you set it up initially – just get it right basically, there’s not too much leeway on the rear changes – but it’s fine once you have it up and running.

105 shifters, 9spd XT rear mech, 10spd XT 11-36 cassette

It’s a well used combination and works fine.
