I want to buy a 36t chainring for my 2 yr old LX HT2 cranks. Question up front is –

Reason I ask is because I has some XT cranks and wanted to swap the rings about but they were different sized spiders, although it may have just been the inner ring thinking about it.

Anyway, same question – are all the 4 bolt spiders the same size? So can I buy a 36t SLX ring and bung it on LX cranks?

    Thanks

anyone? just realised I messed up the post a bit…

So, anyone know if all shimano 4 bolt spiders are the same size?

Should all be the same 104 BCD I think

They are all 104mm BUT it is not always as simple as buying a 104 ring and putting it on. There are differences in the shapes and sizes of the flange that the ring sits against and different spacing. A bit of fiddling can get them to fit and work but if you want the easy option then sticking the correct ring on saves time and effort. If you want the cheap option be prepared to put in a bit of elbow grease.
