    Madison list an M660 36t ring. SLX uses the composite format so I presume this may be what you are after.

    SLX 36T is an aluminium ring, it is only the 32T that is composite. Same with XT, no composite 36T.

    With an actiontec 36T ring on top you can

    So it's a no for shimano 36T composite.

    Any other hard wearing, but light alternatives?

    Actiontec ones: are they Ti? Super expensive?

    Actiontec – yes ti IIRC, super expensive and present problems of their own – like chain length, shifting your chain up onto it and gear ratio gaps
