  • Shimano 10spd shifters – Convert from 2×10 to 3×10?

So I’ve got a set of Xtr 10spd shifters which feel (based on clicks with no cables installed) that they are for two chainrings at the front. Couple of questions.

    1) I’m guessing not but on the off chance can these be converted to work for three chainrings?

    2) Assuming the answer to (1) is no then is the “throw” different on a 2 or 3 shifter? I.e can I use a 3×10 chainset with 2 rings and a bash guard or does it have to be a 2×10 chainset specifically…..

    Thanks

If you have the current (M980) shifter, there should be a switch (looks like a slotted screw head IIRC) on the underside of the front shifter to select 2 or 3 chainrings. I get a server error on the Shimano tech docs at the moment, so can’t link to that.

Indeed there is 😀 never occured for me to look there.

Still curious about the second question though if anyone knows….

    Thanks.

Throw is the same. Just use limiting screws on mech.
