I'm trying to set-up an ethernet network for a PC and a laptop with the following:

Virgin E08C007 modem and Dynamode SW80010-M switch.

I can get the Internet to work with one or the other but not both at the same time.

What do I need to do to get it to work please?

Make sure that only one of them is acting as the DHCP server (the thing that hands out network addresses)

The Dynamode thing is only a hub really, no intelligence in it. I think you need a router, not a hub to make this work. Nothing is doling out IP addresses as the modem is just a direct connection to the internet.

Ok tried this on the PC (runs xp)

"Click start and then run. Type services.msc and click ok. Scroll down the list and double click on DHCP client and click stop and set it to disabled."

    Lap top runs vista.

Still not working both at the same time

Woody. Ahh, thought the dynamode was the same as the router. guess that's why it doesn't work.

as woody said – you need a router unless you want them both on at the same time

as it is, the first one to boot up grabs the connection

uplink, yes that's exactly what it does. first to boot up takes the connection.

I'll start a new thread – which router!!!
