I’m resigning tomorrow, my contract needs 1 weeks notice and I am rota’d to work next weekend. When can I finish?

I don’t know why I’m asking the question tbh, I’m just desperately hoping that there’s some way I can finish Friday without leaving on really bad terms

Got any holiday owing? I once gave a month’s notice and while the boss was still sat there open mouthed, I handed him my leave card with three weeks of leave and flexi on it!

Can not use holiday as notice period.

You can get up to 3 days sick without a Drs note I think

Can’t expect to use holiday to shorten notice but all is for negotiation at this stage, depends on your boss and what you plan to do for the week.
TBH what chance of finding another mug to cover your weekend at a weeks notice?

Alternatively (and naughtily of course), how about “I’m handing in my notice because I’ve accepted a job starting next week with “xxxxxx” (where “xxxxxx” just happens to be a direct competitor).

    Gardening leave here I come!

    Of course this morally wrong.

I don’t endorse this at all.

You can take holidays as your notice and its 5 days without a doctors not for sickness.

Just leave with what your entitled to, just business end of the day they should put a longer notice of leave in the contract if they want to avoid compilations. They wouldn’t hesitate to terminate your contract with a weeks notice end of the day so neither should you.

Going sick is a great thing to do, who ever has to come in and cover your shifts will thank you for it.

Unless it is written into the contract then the answer is no.
You can leave at anytime and no employer can stop what monies is owed to you.

But if you are, then you could always go sick and turn up on your last day.

There’s very little they can do apart from give you a bad reference. I’d advise saying that you need to finish immediately and negotiate towards working until Friday + good reference.

Make them persuade you to stay for a few extra days.

They can only give positive or neutral references but not negative ones. they can, however, blackball you but if the OP already has another job in writing, there’s not much chance of that happening.

Hmmm, I should have phoned him yesterday to tell him shouldn’t I. Taking the moral highground has done me (they phone me all the time on my days off after all).

I’ll see what I can negotiate.
