So I’ve just noticed that the brake hose on my Superlight has worn through the paint behind the head tube and is now carving a groove into the alu itself. This doesn’t sound good, right? I’ll take a photo for gawking once I’ve found the proper lens.

You need to wrap the hose in something like neoprene and put something on the frame. Or re-route the hose a little.

    re-route the hose

    ^This.

Shorten it, lengthen it, place other side of HT, ziptie to another cable etc. Whatever it takes, keep it away from the frame other than at the cable / hose guides.

    A photo of the damage:

Yes, I’ll certainly be re-routing it, especially now that I don’t have a front mech I think I can trivially run it down the other side. I’m wondering how thick the down tube is at that point…

A bit of heli tape on the frame is a lot easier than re routing it + the damage will be hidden behind the cable.

I prefer to call it Advanced Natural Cable Routing. I’ll sell the patent to Specialised.

Actually keep going and you’ll have a nice internal routing port

Serious you say… You need Jagwire outers for “Serious”

    Which, when combined with crackage…

Means the frame will be picked up by the Council Recycling Binmen

I did this to my Nukeproof Mega

I spoke to Hotlines and they said ‘that’ll be fine, there is LOADS of metal there’. However, probably a bit less on a Superlight…

Jesus H Christ on a Stick. Yeah that makes my damage pale into insignificance, but I guess the difference is that I want a bike that is fine to ride. I just mailed SC to see what they think…

fitted a lot of these recently….. probably worth investing in a few if you’re not using helitape etc
