Just bought a car that came with a private plate which I’m thinking of selling on (the plate, not the car). I don’t really know where to start – all these webuyanyplate.com type places look dodgy as to me. Anyone got any top tips on where (and how!) to sell a private reg?

I think you’ll struggle unless it’s something really special.

    I think you’ll either:

    1) End up keeping it on the car
    2) End up giving it back the DVLA for nothing and requesting an appropriate year plate/the original plate back
    3) Selling it on Ebay for next to nothing

It’s “worth” about £400 apparently, looking on the DVLAregistrations site that estimate seems about right.

It’s worth nothing then. It’s a basic plate that has little appeal. Sorry.

If you really want shot, Ebay it.

All the other sites will just offer it for sale for years and won’t buy it from you.

Nah, I’ll keep it if it’s worth nowt. I’d hoped to flog it and use the proceeds to get a towbar fitted as that would be infinitely more useful 🙂

Change your name to make it relevant to the plate?

When Ferrari bring out their rumoured P3 JJR hyper car you should be onto a winner.
