Does anybody know where sells them in Sheffield? The cones on my new hub have randomly tightened just recently.

Also, how do you undo them if they’re tight? It seems really difficult to keep the axle still while trying to undo them. I experimented with an adjustable spanner on the inner one which was very tight.

Do some people make a notch or a couple of notches at the other end of the axle?

I thought i’d read on here about making notches…

    Thanks,

    Tim

Attach wheel to fork and do up the bolt thru really tight, that should hold the axle nicely, and undo the cone, the spanners are thin so will fit.

Axle in vice using an axle holder with soft jaws or just the vice jaws if your not cack-handed.

You can put the wheel in the “outside” of the fork i.e. just clamping one side of the bearings then spanner the other free side. That tends to hold the axle tight, even though you’ve got the QR bolt getting in the way a bit.
