Tempted by a set of these wheels but never heard of the brand. Has anyone else?

I have the 700c/29 version on a pickenflick. I hadn’t heard of them either. i’ve only been using the these last few weeks but have no concerns. At that price i think they are a good buy (i’d ignore the original rrp).

I agree rendo, doubt they’ve ever been £600! I’m seriously tempted but the crank bros iodine at £199 look gorgeous bug are twice the price. Really dont know what to go for. If anyone’s seen any similar bargains out there please let me know.

I would want to know what the spares backup is like for something you don’t see often.

I would echo the Pickenflick comments. Got them on mine. Selcof have always been a reasonable quality make. good seat posts and I bet they come out of the same Chinese factory as everything else.

P-X selling brands no ones heard of, with dubious heritage claims and equally dubious rrps, who’d have thunk it?

    leythervegas

2 people have heard of them and recommend them and noone’s said they are dubious. I’m still tempted.

Same wheels on ebay out of Germany for £130. Ive had Selcof components before though never a wheel set. Im taking the plunge on these wheels. Bought heaps of stuff from On One over the years and they’ve always been good (to me at least) on after sales service, repairs and exchange. Might get some socks while Im at it.

Selcof have been about for years.
I doubt many wheels have a traceable passage through life that doesn’t start in the far east unless they are mega price.

Still tempted so may buy today. My only doubt is the too good to be true price.

Looks like novatec hubs (same as on one use) so might have adaptable axles on the front at least.

Just pointing out this is P-Xs M.O and I’d pay NO attention to pie in the sky rrps. Not a P-X hater, used them loads of times, but you need to judge kit on its own merits not the hyperbole P-X attach to stuff: and its normally so old or obscure you won’t find reviews. I said dubious heritage not dubious product quality, eg. SAB and Holdsworth. I got some Carnac carbon road shoes in the summer, on one (ha ha) of their extra 10% off days for 36 quid so untouchable value, Carnac a known brand with history but I’ve no doubt these were from a warehouse full of dusty ancient/bankrupt stock someone found (something else they specialise in).

These Selcof wheels arrived today (less than 24 hours after ordering). Weighed them and they are just under 1600g so a tad less than the claimed 1650. All spokes are tight and evenly tensioned. I stuck them both on my jig and they are as close to perfectly round as a wheel needs to be.

Did some more googling on the wheels and if you were in Spain and genuinely stupid you could pay up to 700 euros for them …

Selcof is an amazing brand, initially starting out making Saddles (selle) and COFFINS!

    Are they actually Shimano hubs?

The ones in the pictures aren’t…good luck getting spares…no matter WTF heritage the “brand” has.

Are the horrible graphics just stickers?

Normal spokes not bladed yeah? quite tempted

are these quick release on both ends?
when they say tubeless, do you need rim tape?
    thanks

Look great – am guessing they’re the price they are because the hubs don’t convert – am I right?

If Brant happens to come back in this thread, do they come with QRs or do you need to order them seperate?

    crashtestmonkey

Cynic-al, I thought the same, and guessed they meant shimano-compatible hubs? Or comes with Shimano freehub body?

If brant does come back he might discover that if P-X actually put some useful info about the products on their site rather than limited gibberish they’d get more sales. All the above are basic Q’s potential buyers shouldn’t have to ask.

CTM – there’s no other std for mtb wheels, and so I presumed it meant the hub brand.

    Ok, so:

    – the hideous graphics are indeed stickers and they are not all that sticky and come off easy enough.
    – they come with QR’s and they’re reasonably light and work fine, though not exactly the prettiest things.
    – spokes are round rather than bladed.
    – no idea whether they are Shimano hubs. OO says they are but they aren’t branded, but then the Shimano hubs on my wife’s bike aren’t branded either. FWIT, the bearings are nice and smooth and we’ll see how well sealed they are in the next month or so.
    – they are proper tubeless rims and I fit some regular tyres to them today (Michelin mud thingies) and they went easily enough. No rim tape needed.

I know that, but did who ever knocked up some half-arsed spec for the website know it, or just look at the road wheels they had listed? I initially thought “ooh, shimano hubs” but from the pics they aren’t, so there’s not many other alternatives (compatibility, make of freehub, ignorance of writer)!

I doubt they are Shimano hubs. They are so sodding noisy. Nearly as bad as Hope. I just hang my head when my mates are about. Sound like 2 hedgehogs having a W**k in a dustbin. My stickers don’t look like they are coming off easily.
QR’s on my Pickenflick as the usual modern external cam ones. Ok at best. Replaced by nice silver Campag Record ones. Wheels are dead straight after 350 miles so far.

Any thanks for answers above, any idea on internal rim width?

Selcof is a historic Italian brand that was one of the best Italian manufacturers of seatposts back in the day , supplying the likes of Colnago . They were the one of the first company to produce carbon seatposts .

I met Marco Bizzotto last month , a fascinating guy , the company started as a metal fabricator in post war Italy , amongst which was the production of aluminium coffins , one of the brothers was a cyclist and wanted to make saddles (selle ) hence selcof .

In the 80s and 90s and early 2000s selcof was one of the major Italian manufacturers of seatposts , stems , bar ends etc .

The company was sold to Rivolta group who have just closed down their cycle division .

We have acquired the brand name and stock , and we are bringing Marco Bizzotto back on board to get the brand going again , he has been involved with selcof through the ups and downs .

you can find this on t interweb .

“Selcof was founded at the end of the 1940’s Bizzotto family. Until 1985 the main activity was the manufacturing of metal parts for the saddles of motorcycle, touring and racing bicycles. In 1986 the production of the aluminum seat posts for all kind of bicycles was started. Today Selcof manufactures a wide variety of seatposts for all kinds of cycling in carbon, aluminum and titanium. Thanks to the most up-to date and computerized technologies each new idea is virtually tested to fix the structural limits and to verify whether it will have the security, the lightness and the quality specifications which characterize the Selcof line of components. Professional cyclists, have always assisted the company with the development of the products by testing them directly during racing. Selcof currently works in collaboration with some of the most prestigious professional road teams such as LAMPRE, TACCONI SPORT, and PHONAK. The result of all these efforts are components that are aesthetically pleasing and superbly constructed.”

as I said before on the photos they look like novatec hubs. I guessed the “shimano hub” was referring to the freehub fitment style.

Ignoring the above, captainsideburns, sorry, didn’t measure the internal rim width and Ive got the tyres on and Stans goop in there so will be leaving them there till the mud dries up.

I don’t mind being sold bankrupt stock and will update if and when the hubs fail and what OnOne’s response is. Hoping that wont be for some time.

Cheap wheels in cheap wheels not perfect shock. To quote Al Murray “NOT NEWS”.
    1. If its too good to be true, it probably is too good to be true.
    2. Remember light, strong, cheap pick two still applies.

Just clicked on Charlie TBMs email advert for stans wheels and the hubs looked familiar. @ thebrowndog: do your hubs look like this in the flesh? http://www.notubes.com/help/hubinfo.aspx

Any update on these? I’m after a light but cheap trail wheelset that won’t do thousands of miles. I assume I could put some non-tubeless specialized tyres on and a bit of fluid just pump them up?
