You know the sound that makes your spine shiver…

I’m in danger of looking foolish, asking for obvious answers, not done a search etc… BUT… having read and actioned lot’s on bed-in, contamination, bleeding, caliper adjustment etc… I still seem to suffer.

Am I doing something wrong, or is it just one of those facts of life you learn to live with?

I’ve experienced 3 different brake systems – Tektro Auriga Comp, Tektro Drako and Avid Elixir 5 – while performance varied, all had the squealing.

    is there an instant cure?

Don’t worry, the usual ‘experts’ will be along in a minute with pages of arguing and advice.

I’ve got some Tektros that just seem to squeal in the wet.

It does let pedestrians know you are there when they step out in front of you though.

The usual things to atempt are

Sand down discs and pads a bed in again making a deliberate attempt to get them hot

Align properly using the hope method – see their vids

Copaslip on the back of the pads

    Change your type of pad

File a chamfer on the leading edge of the pad ( for desparete measures only

Change discs to one with a different drilling pattern

    Buy earplugs
