My 2000 V6 4Motion Golf is well past is best before date and the insurance etc runs out at the end of the month, so I’m going to scrap it. Other than sending back the tax disc to get the remaining full months refunded, any tips of maximising cash for the old girl, or do you just get a token payment for an old car?

Stick it on eBay. You’ll get more than scrap value.

Not sure I can be bothered with Ebay / people viewing it etc and I’ve no space to break it as it’s parked on road (terraced house).

If you take it do a recycler’s they wont want the tyres. SO go in a big enough car to be able to bring the wheels home and stick them on eBay. Or pay someone to scrap the rubber.

They might weigh it at a descent site to cal how much to pay. So pee on the seats first 😉

Advertise it on a VW forum, someone will bite your hand off for alot more than you’d get for scrap.
Engine’s probably worth at least £500 alone if in good condition

Does it drive? Stick it on ebay, 10 day auction, seller to collect within a week. Minimal hassle, maximum cash. Scrap cars/spares or repair get a lot less annoying buyers and tyre kickers.

Where are you, I may come around and take it off your hands. And then ebay it…

It drives fine (well mpg unchanged in 10 years I’ve had it). Rear diff seems to have lost all its oil and needs new seals, one rear brake is binding poss metal on metal (sounds like it) and air con needs a re-gass, gear box needs new oil seals and oil top up, body work is pretty tidy for it’s age.

GF works for Kia and qualifies for two company cars at her grade, so it’s cheaper to get a company car than MOT, Tax and insure the Golf for another year.

Will only cost you £10 to advertise it. And you have a MASSIVE audience of VW nutters.
