Do they work well on snow/icy trails?

Getting fed up of being very limited during this spell of cold weather.
If these tyres can grip on icy roads and trails then they might be a worthwhile investment.

I have just been out with my conti studded tyres and I am very impressed. Grip on ice 🙂

Good on snow. They can be good on ice but you have to run fairly low pressures due to there being no centre studs. I would like to try a more heavily studded tyre 🙂

Ice spikers which have 300+ studs on.

The snow tyres are good in snow and small patches of ice and dont tend to spin out on soft snow, the spikers are the true ice / frozen slush tyre but are more inclinded to spin out on soft snow – on ice, its like being on a normal road for grip and braking – they are great fun. They last for years if you store them in decent conditions.

Terrahawk seemed less than impressed with his snow Studs last night on our little jaunt. Puncture caused by fairly mild front impact (inflation?) but then the wire became exposed and he had to trim a lump off leaving him with
a) a slack tyre which duly came off
b) a sharp piece of wire hanging about near the tube.

His telling comment was 'I don't know why they're called Snow Studs because they are sh1t in snow. Ok on ice, but sh1t in snow.' There was also some mention of 'sending them back'.

My mud type tyres seemed to work pretty well in the snow. Ancient 1.8 Mud Mad on the front and a cheapo £10 Michelin 2.1 mud tyre that I found in Decathlon in summer, on the rear.

interesting that shops are selling those snow studs cheap (considerably cheaper than the far superior conti claw)

and ive now read that 2 folk have had their beads pop out on them cheapski tires …. tread looks shit for anything other than road anyway !

I was under the impression the Snow Stud was a commuting tyre – run normal pressures for road use and drop the pressure for ice.

They are nowhere as effective as Ice Spikers on ice.

Mine turned up today.
Will put them on and head out to test them later on.

I agree with everything above. Great on snow and much better than a standard tyre on ice, but by no means an ice tyre – even when running low pressures.

I was still getting a little bit of slip as the studs are not on the centre of the tyre, but they caught the slide and held me on the bike, so I am happy!

ice spikers are the next step up.

Oh look another snow stud thread. Well, I just had a brilliant time on mine. Loose wet snow is loose and wet, but hard-pack and ice is brilliant. I'm running them ghetto tubeless at about 35 PSI. (they are stiff though, warm them in a bath before fitting!).
