    Hey all,

Basically myself and a co-worker want to build a pump track/bike track/bmx track at our school for the pupils and ourselves to use. The school have been helpful giving us a piece of land with a good hill for a roll in and said off you go start digging…..

So far I have got some pupils who will lend a hand and sourced a couple of dumper loads of good topsoil to finish the track with.

Just thought I would post on here and see if anyone has any advice for building and/or suggestions for what sort of track we should go for to enable all level of riders on all mannor of bikes to get some fun out of it!?

    Cheers

Talk to Dave Cockram, the National Facilities Officer at British Cycling. They've got a list of experienced/approved track builders who will offer advice/help. General consensus is that if left to their own devices, most people get it wrong… 😉
0161 274 2000 is the switchboard number, ask to be put through to Dave Cockram.

biketrack have links to and/or built.

bolehills (best bmx track on earth – fact)
    chessy
    kimberworth
    wincobank

and quite a few more. don't get a much better CV than that in my opinion…

All of the track builders mentioned are professional track building companies/businesses, and I got the impression from Willy's first post that he was looking for tips on track building, not a company to build the track for him.

Biketrack (run by Steve Taylor who rides for my BMX and 4X team), Clark & Kent and Jason Carpenter are all brilliant track builders, but the tracks they build all require a reasonable budget. I'm not sure Willy's project has such a budget.

The best tip I can give if building a track yourself is put some decent drainage/stone layer under the top layer to stop it getting flooded. Also, use crushed stone on the top surface to stop it getting worn out when ridden in the wet.

    Good luck!

    don't finish it with topsoil!

dig and build the jumps from topsoil, cover in rocks/hardcore, then finish with whatever the earth is arround there (unless you can buy in crushed limestone)
