I want to build an A-frame from scaffolding or kee klamp or something along those lines. As I'm not looking for industrial quantities, what are my best sources for just a few bits and bobs? I'm based in Manchester if you know of any places local to me.

Not sure about local, but there will be a load of places. I know a few down here. RS sell a big range of fittings, but not the tube. Might be worth looking on their website to get an idea of what is available. There is a range of qualities from the ones used by councils to build railings up to proper clamping ones like Rose-Kriegers (my favourite). Kee lites are a good middle ground
