Incredible the force of the blast – especially considering how high up it was.

Grantway, that’s entirely unconnected. That’s not happened yet. 🙂

If that one were to enter the atmosphere we’d have a serious problem on our hands as a species, not just a Big Bang and a rattle….

As I understand it a 45m asteroid would not come anywhere near to causing an extinction scale event. It would cause devastation on a local level especially in the unlikely event of it hitting a city but once you got a few of hundred kilometres from the impact zone life would be largely unaffected.

A fractionally larger asteroid hit in 1908, it caused massive localised damage but life marched on regardless.

Nah its only 50 metres across.

A really bad day if you happen to be within about 50 miles of where it landed but not the end of the world.

EDIT about 40-50 megatons based on some fag packet maths

and if Bruce Willis wasn’t too busy promoting his latest Die Hard film he’d have armageddon it.

If it hit it would be as bad as the Meteor Crater, Arizona event.

Justr watched The One Show when they said the Big Event meteor would hit and nothing.

Typical, the trailer was better than the main event.

The Russian impact was half a megatonne according to NASA estimates. That’s equivalent to a decent-sized an atomic bomb.

NASA [they’re always right, aren’t they?]
