    Hi,

After a bit of advice please. Thinking of doing some solos / Kielder 100 etc next year and gonna build up a 29er for it. Thinking about running a 1×9 set up. Never seem to use the big ring on the front and managed to get all the way round Llandegla on Sunday only using the middle ring.

So if I was to set up the 29er as a 1×9 what do I need to think about? Here's a few questions:

    1. Do I run a standard cassette on the back? Up to 34T?
    2. Do I run a standard chain?
    3. What size chainring do you run on the front – is there somewhere in 22/32 teeth?
    4. Do I need any special cranks / chainring?
    5. Can I run a short cage rear mech?
    6. Do I need an external BB?
    7. Anything else to bear in mind?

Probably gonna build up a Scandal for the job…

    Thanks in advance 🙂

the only thing i would bear in mind that probably isnt in the other thread is the gearing changes for bigger wheels. i dunno what to suggest because i wouldnt touch a wagon wheeler with someone elses barge pole but im sure some nichemonger will help you out. 😛
