I'm just getting back into running after a gap of several years. Just plodding at the moment (typically 3-5 miles, 2 or 3 times a week with BMF sessions thrown in to work on intervals and core strength). Avoiding injury is my immediate goal so that I can gradually build up the mileage and intensity to be ready for the Highlander Mountain Marathon at the end of April and, ultimately, Tranter's Round sometime around midsummer.
I've done a handful of MMs in the past, most recently 6th place in the B class in the Mourne MM in 2006. I've always harboured a notion to do the Tranter and I'm not getting any younger!
I'm not very knowledgeable about running though. I much prefer running in the hills and on trails as it seems to be more forgiving on the knees and hips. Road/pavement always gives me some kind of niggling pain so I might need some advice on shoes, technique etc.
